Our warmest thanks to every client and expert for ten eventful years.
Finland’s largest in ten years
A vision shared by two men has grown in ten years into a forest property market expert organisation with a team of 14 professionals.
“I am truly proud and grateful for how far we have come with the Suomen Sijoitusmetsät team. At this stage, I must express my gratitude and respect not only to the staff who give their all every day, but also to the people behind our long-standing customer relationships,” says founder and Chairman of the Board Mika Venho.
In Suomen Sijoitusmetsät’s early days, operations emphasised the forest investment theme, as forest properties were acquired and managed for institutions. Without forgetting our long-standing clients, now and in the future we are expanding our services to private forest owners. The Metsäluotsi service, designed for this purpose, provides an expert who walks alongside the forest owner, especially when considering divesting forest assets.
“The Metsäluotsi concept was developed for forest owners who are considering whether to continue as forest owners, how to carry out a generational transfer, under what terms a holding could be joined to a functional jointly owned forest, or how much they could receive for their forests if sold on the public market,” Venho says.
When comparing a forest owner’s options, we draw on proven expertise in timber valuation, application of market value methodology, calculation of return expectations, and practical forest management knowledge.
“One must always remember that the forest owner is the decision-maker, and usually a smart one. We provide them with information solely to enable good and far-reaching decisions,” Venho says.
Suomen Sijoitusmetsät aims to be Finland’s most competent and versatile forest property market operator, and to help create an increasingly fair forest market. Suomen Sijoitusmetsät’s services cover all stages of forest ownership, and clients include both Finland’s largest forest investors and a large number of private individuals.
“Reforming an industry that has operated in Finland for this long is by no means a given, but I take my hat off to everyone who has believed in what we do over the years.”
Sustainable business goes a long way
From the very beginning, since 2013, Suomen Sijoitusmetsät has trusted that showing our faces and getting our hands dirty creates reliable and sustainable business. Initially, we insisted that the founders’ faces serve as a guarantee of trust, even though not everyone believed in the idea. Ten years later, founder Mika Venho is still involved in the practical work with the same energy.
“We do not settle for ready-made answers; instead, we want to examine things from new perspectives. There has been turnover in staff and CEOs, but the core has remained unchanged. Sijoitusmetsät has gained something from everyone who has shared this journey, and I believe that those who sought new challenges have found exactly that with us,” Venho states.
Although the team of professionals has grown many times over, every working day is still guided by the important values established in the early days, such as increasing fairness in the forest property market, creating client value, data-centricity, and intelligent application of knowledge.
“A large proportion of our employees are forest owners themselves, making it easy for them to see things from the owner’s perspective and provide decision-making support for wise solutions,” Venho says.
Suomen Sijoitusmetsät will continue in the future to share forest property market information with forest owners and forestry sector operators whose values rest in the Finnish forest and its well-being.
Venho knows that a functioning and efficient market requires reliable and diverse information, especially when assessing its development. It has been clearly demonstrated in Finland that when forest has a price, people want to manage it well.
“The Finnish forest is a solid and versatile investment. Our range of services will continue to offer the right approach for all types of forest ownership. Our customers can always get their hands dirty as much as they wish, but with our help, forest ownership can also be managed responsibly from an urban home.”
